The Byakugan's corpus debut (Vol. 5 p.100, the panel used for this entry's crop) is a small comic beat before it's ever a combat power: Neji activates it silently during a written exam to peek at another student's answer sheet, and VIZ renders the shout with a fixed appositive gloss — "白眼!!" becomes "BYAKUGAN! THE ALL-SEEING EVIL EYE!" That exact phrase, word for word, repeats verbatim at the next occurrence two volumes later (Vol. 7 p.73, now with the added detail "HEREDITARY TRAIT OF THE MEMBERS OF CLAN HYUGA!") and again in Vol. 8 — VIZ is clearly treating the gloss as the character's fixed catchphrase rather than a one-off translator's note, printing the same explanatory tag three separate times across three different volumes before finally trusting readers to know what "BYAKUGAN" means on its own. From Vol. 21 onward every shout in the sampled occurrences is bare — "BYAKUGAN!", no gloss, no evil-eye flourish — a cleaner transition than Sharingan's (which still occasionally reintroduces "MIRROR-WHEEL EYE" well after Vol. 2) and considerably cleaner than Rasengan's gradual four-volume fade.

The technical vocabulary the corpus captures around Byakugan is unusually dense for a jutsu name entry: Vol. 12 alone supplies a precise "360 degrees" vision-range figure ("ネジの白眼の最大視界は一ほぼ30:つまり、自分の周囲は全て見通せるわ" / "THE VISUAL RANGE OF NEJI'S BYAKUGAN IS ALMOST A FULL 360 DEGREES") and repeated references to it as a 血継限界 (kekkei genkai, "bloodline limit") — vocabulary VIZ leaves as an untranslated loanword with a footnote asterisk in Vol. 9 rather than translating outright, treating "kekkei genkai" itself as brand-safe the same way "jutsu" is throughout the series.

The Vol. 70 sample overlaps directly with the Sharingan entry in this dictionary — a late reveal that a single character's mother carried both bloodlines simultaneously ("母は白眼以外に写輪眼の力をも有していた" / "MOTHER POSSESSED THE POWER OF SHARINGAN AS WELL AS BYAKUGAN") — one of the only points across all six entries here where two different named dojutsu are confirmed to coexist in the same bloodline, a detail that rewards reading this entry alongside Sharingan's.
